***** CORRECTION: This amp model is BR-9, not BR-6! My bad.

Check this out. A friend lent me his 1949 Gibson BR-9.

These were originally packaged and sold with a Gibson lap guitar. Very cool; the amp has two 6V6 power tubes and it uses an interstage transformer (not a phase inverter tube) to drive them in push-pull. It makes maybe 10 watts.

The cab is a little trapezoidal thing, with a 10-inch field coil speaker. One knob for volume, no tone control. It is similar to the 1947 Gibson amp I once had. It has a nice old school tone. I'll put up a video later.

(That is the Premier Twin 8 amp to the left for size reference. The Gibson amp is really small.)

Those are cool amps I have a had a couple. For being so small they are heavy little things. Those cabinets are solid as a rock

Nice little amp. How do you like it Rick? I own a Gibson BR-9 that is a nifty little amp. I don't use it too much, but like it a lot.

Jay, I had a 1947 BR-6 that screamed. Great amp. I still painfully regret selling it.

Nice looking Rick. I found that my BR-9 was a tad thin. Most likely because it was, I believe, built as a lap steel amp. I added a Fender Princeton type tone control where the 2nd input was and that helped a lot. The original speaker was a field coil that was totally trashed. I added a choke and installed a Weber 8" Vintage ceramic and tweaked a couple of cap and resistor values. Made a huge difference. It is now a good harp amp. It also sounds pretty good with guitar.

Jay, the speaker in that '47 was a 12-inch field coil. It was a bit trebly but crunched like a mutha. I sold it to a guy who works with Randy Newman in L.A.

I'll get some video of this little BR-6 up in the next couple of hours. I played it for a few minutes last night and it was way fun.

I miss-spoke on the speaker. It is a 10" not an 8"
