He reminds me of a young Mick Jagger, in terms of his looks, presence/energy, sexuality, and those lips! Of course he's a better harp player. Duh. And maybe a better singer too. And in English.

The French are terrible blues singers, from what I've heard. It might be because the French accent is one of the most lampooned since humans could make sound, but whatever the case, the combination a native French speaker attempting to perform in a vocal idiom completely unlike their own--in the black American Blues vernacular--never seems less than comically preposterous. It seems that Charles Pasi has a normally good singing voice and that perhaps his blues vocalizing sounds better in French than in English. As is, it sounds ridiculous , even pretentious to a degree. Another lesson to be drawn from white singers who had no chance of ever sounding like the black geniuses they worshipped-- Paul Btterfield, Mose Allison, Al Wilson, Mick Jagger, to name a few--is to stop trying to sing black and instead play what you know. Then your blues story starts gathering some credibility.
As a player, though, it's a another story. Pasi is a wonderful harmonica player, potentially a great one. He mixes up his styles with verve and energy, he is quick and wonderfully rhythmic--I here some John Mayall/Charlie McCoy stuff here--and he has an efffective vibrato. The only downside I heard is that he's unsure and inexact on the high end--he still sounds like he's looking for those notes. That, though, is something will likely improve with time. I look forward to hearing more from him. ---------- Ted Burke http://www.youtube.com/user/TheoBurke?feature=mhee
