Hello, fellow harpers. From time to time the subject of harmonica bandolero, or bandolier if you like, comes up on the Dirty South forum. I recently had an unusual request to make one for a local harmonica hero so I though I'd share it here.
Donny Morales is a very big man with a very big local following. He's a lighting fast player in the vein of Sugar Blue (he was actually a protégé for while) and his own personal hero, John Popper.
Donny hosts a local Open Mic', which is arguably the most popular ongoing weekly event in our small rural city. A group of musicians took up a collection to gift Donny with something he's wanted for a long, long time, his own harmonica bandolero. (Donny's of Hispanic descent so I use that term.)
I met with Donny, took his ample measurements and queried him as to such details as the number of harps and the appearance he desired. I decided that there was ample ah, territory to hold a full dozen harmonica pockets. The big this was that Donny wanted "maximum bling."
So I put this together:
Donny's nickname is Dmo (I'll have to ask him sometime...) and I put that in 1 cm rhinestones. The perimeter is composed of two sizes of a zillion round-cap rivets. We had a little presentation ceremony that actually got Donny a bit misty. Then another happy Open Mic' convened.
Thanks for looking,
Michelle

While I might never wear a bandolero (never say never I suppose), that is pretty sweet!

The translation to Spanish is bandolera or cartuchera
A bandelero is a thief or a criminal same as a bandido
Nice leather work tho

Goldbrick, while I appreciate your translation, Donny is a lot bigger than me. I'm going to continue to let him call the bandolier anything he wants to. As of tis writing he is calling it a bandolero. I'm not going to argue with him. :)
Thanks,
Michelle
