I've had some reasonable results setting up some of my old Lee Oskars for overblows and have reliable overblows on 4,5&6.
Though I'm still struggling getting a balance between getting the overblows reliably without then having the reeds choke playing normal blow notes which I guess is still pretty much either technique or set up.

I've got no idea on overdraws though, I've got nothing. Not even a squeak or a squawk.

I'm not sure on the reed set ups, I've watched a few videos about them, but like I say, I've got nothing.

Any recommended YouTube tutorials or how to's

Does anyone do online sessions?

Cheers JG

I recommend you check out Dave Barrett's bluesharmonica.com. He very recently enlisted the aid of LA harp player Ross Garren to create a series of video lessons around overblows and overdraws. Bending Study 8- "Overbend Study 1"- has some downloadable instructions and videos about setting up your harp. Videos by harp tech extraordinaire and Tommy Lee Jones look alike Richard Sleigh.

Your experiences sound pretty typical. It's more and more difficult to get overblows and overdraws the higher up you go on the harmonica. This is because the reeds are shorter and have smaller room for error.

Oskars can be set up for overbends but they're not the ideal candidates due to their short slot reed design.

Another source for info is Jason Ricci. He's using Suzuki Manjis, which use longer reed length, and he's got setup down to a pretty fine craft.

Pretty sure it was Michael Rubin who helped me get the overdraws. Having a good harmonica for it matters though. More importantly Michael can teach when they are useful in blues and different exercises to strengthen your ability to do them.
