I'm going to buy an auto wah pedal. There are two pedals I like but I can not bother myself. Which pedal would you choose, or do you have any tips on any other auto wah pedal that is good?
Mad professor snow white auto wah VS Maxon AF-9 Auto Filter
Metro, wondering if you bought one. I'm in the middle of the same question. JR sounds right with the Maxon but I'd still consider that Snow White. I do so much suave funk and GD these days I'm looking for some more smooth.
Anyone else using an envelope filter -that WORKS with a mic/harp?
I just got my AF-9 yesterday. I freaking love it, for real love it. ....but I'm pretty overwhelmed with options so far. I was jumping on here to start a thread asking what settings people use, but perhaps someone on this thread has some input?
Maybe that Mooncat guy can talk settings. I tried to look close on his pedal board video but it's not real clear. He should just call us lame and say something about figuring something out for ourselves. Although...Buddha did tell him :) Can you tell me a little more about how it responds to a mic?
Hey yall Yeah Maxon AF-9 ... I keep the sliders opposite: Left slider almost all the way up. Right almost all the way down...The first switch is down the other two are up on high.... I have to turn my mich DOWN when I step on it. I love it and it's the only pedal I really tend to overuse. ---------- www.mooncat.org
Much thanks Jason. I'd read that stepping on it responded with a bit of level jump so hearing that working the VC handles it is great to know. ...now for the $...
Awesome. I found a magic place last night where I could trigger the filter with my vibrato and cupping of the mic. It was almost like I could control the pedal with my embouchure. I imagine it's similar to how a guitar player feels with a talk-box.
Thanks, @mooncat! I've been trying to decode a paused YouTube vid of yours. :)
I found this vid that was pretty helpful in wrapping my mind around how the sliders work together.
Yes, I saw that video this morning and it was helpful. My concern has been about how the AF-9 responds to harp as well as a mic, as opposed to a guitar. And chords vs single notes. (Arrick) wrote "It was almost like I could control the pedal with my embouchure." That got my attention. One issue that I may not have given enough credence to was how essential technique is to an appropriate use of an effect. I was more so assuming basic delivery of a single note or chords could/should represent what an effect can do. Like delay is what it is. You work with it but it's not really responsive. This pedal, evidently, is. That was the last straw. Arrick cost me some money. Pedal arrives Monday.

Haha. I looked at if for 3 years and just pulled the trigger last weekend. I would say it's much different than any other pedal. Others decorate my sound. This one is "activated" by the articulation of a note. It works with chords and single notes, but differently than anything else. It took me a few minutes to get rid of feedback and start making some good sounds. I find myself adjusting the setting depending on the key of the harp. Oh, did I say Chromatic? That's reallly where I'm having the most fun with it. It really likes the non-bent single notes. Harmonic minor harp is fun too. Vamping can simulate the bow-chicka-wow-wow effects you get from a picked guitar. Find your favorite funk or reggae backing track and have fun.
I'm playing about 3 nights a week with 2 different groups that calls for lots of funk, some reggae, 70's soul and plenty of Jerry groovyness. Shall report...
First gig adding the Maxon AF-10. It's pretty hard to get my approval. I can say it's staying in the arsenal with me being the limiting factor as far as application. I dialed in settings that sounded great. My concern is that I couldn't get the attack right to play really up tempo triplet riffs. It was that millimillisecond delay that made timing on phrases difficult. I tried to just roll with it but at one point just turned it off. I'll try to solve the issue tonight (2 events tonight). I do like it.
