I like it! Very spirited. And you've got that third section, which I never got.

I worked up a version thirty years ago, right after I learned to overblow. I was in the pit band of "Big River"; I bought the sheet music and made my way through it very slowly and painfully.

Years later I dusted the song off and made it a part of my OMB act. (It's the last track on KICK AND STOMP.) Here's a loud, brutalist version from 2010. It has none of your version's sprightliness. But it's got a certain raffish charm.

To me, "The Entertainer" is a great song to pull out when you encounter somebody who thinks that overblows mean you're a hardcore jazz guy like Howard Levy. I say, "Noooo. They're great for cozy old Americana stuff, too."

I'm glad you're putting this out there. Great song; should be played more by our crowd.

Thanks fellas! I like your version too Adam, taking the main theme and making something new and funky out of the piece.

Christelle put our a good version using overblows on a Richter harp:

The video seems to be close to the version on Kick and Stomp. I really like your version of the tune, Dr. Gussow. You seem to be using mostly tongue blocking and adding octaves to get that ragtime sound. Anyway, that's a great 1st position instrumental that I really enjoy and I'm working on a version of it myself. Brendan, your version is great too but different from Adam's because I don't hear tongue blocking in your rendition but that's not a criticism. You're a excellent player and I always enjoy listening to you.
