I got a new toy. Actually, I’ve had it for a couple of years but just never got around to setting it up and learning how to use it until recently. It is a K40 Laser Engraver.
Like anything else, there is a learning curve when you first get started. Fortunately, in addition to there being a bazillion Harmonica-Centric groups on Facebook which will help you learn how to play, there are also Laser Engraver-Centric groups which will help you learn how to get the most out of your machine. So far, they have been a big help. I’m getting the hang of it. So, now I can engrave on the back of combs to make them a bit more personal. This is how I labeled the new Rob Paparozzi Custom Big Rivers that just came out.
Here are some Seydel 1847 Corian and Fancy Acrylic Combs that are going out to a wonderful blues harmonica player. Can you guess who?
Now I have to figure out a way to make it easy for my customers to add Custom Engraving on their comb or custom harp orders. That’s another learning curve. Editing websites.
By the way, if you don’t know Rob Stone, he is a very nice guy and a very good player. Check him out.
That's very cool Tom. Yes the learning curve. I suspect this is like a lot of things that look simple enough but require a lot of knowledge and work to produce functional results.
Now I just need to come up with a cool stage name! I added custom text to my B-radicals (almost 10 years ago!) I couldn't think of anything clever, so it's just my first/last name with the year. That was around the time I decided to get serious about improving on harmonica, and these are special harps to me besides their unfortunate rarity.
