I am trying to narrow down the speaker configurations for the Mission Chicago 32/20 amp. So far I have heard the 1x12, the 12 plus 10 and the 3x10 on YouTube but not the 2x10. Although YouTube is probably not as accurate as the real thing it's all I've got. Has anyone played or heard the 32/20 with two ten inch speakers. Opinions much appreciated.

I have the 2x10 and a 1x15 version.
Mine are the 50w version, however.
My 2x10 has Emminence Lil Buddy speakers.
The 1x15 has a Weber Chicago 15.
It would of course depend on what speakers you had put in.
I think the 2x10 has a slightly warmer sound.
I have not heard the 1x12 live.
I don't think Bruce is offering the 1x15 as an option anymore.
As far as IO know the 1x12 and 2x10 are the same cabinet.

Yes, I have played the Mission Chicago 32-20 amp with two 10-inch speakers. The speakers I liked best in the amp were an Eminence Lil Buddy and an Eminence Legend alnco. I liked the rip in the tone.

I have played all the Mission harp amps. I own the first 32-20 -- a 1x12 model -- and the first Delta Sonic amp. (BTW, when I run those two together daisy-chained the sound is freaking glorious.)

2plankr, it depends on what you want out of the amp. If you gig a lot the 2x10 is a good choice. It is very loud with a nice cut from the tens, kind of like a mini-Bassman. It will throw to the back of the room.

I think you guys know how impressed I am with the new 1x10 Delta Sonic amp from Mission. It is 15 watts from two 6V6 tubes with a Lil Buddy speaker in a tweed Harvard cab for only $869. It has a line out for PA support. I don't want to mess up Bruce Collins' dealings with you, but you might consider the smaller amp. Here is a video of Nic Clark playing the Delta Sonic. You can see the amp behind him to his right sitting on a chair:

(That's Bruce Collins on drums, by the way...)

Thanks Rick. The smaller amp sounds great. Do you know if it cathode or fixed bias?

Thanks for the info Rick. Would you recommend the 20 watt version and the sonic booster or stick with the standard version?

2plankr, if you like the general tone that Nic is getting, order the basic amp. Granted, Nic Clark is a phenomenal player but he illustrates the amp's potential.

The amp was not lined-out to the PA in this video and there are no effect.

Here is a YouTube video I did for a forum member the other day comparing a mission Chicago 32-20 to a masco 17n. The mission has 2x10 speakers, a lil buddy and a Jensen pq 10.

blueswannabe, cool comparison video. Thanks for posting it.

And the Mission amp sounds great in the 2nd vid. Nice playing!

My only suggestion -- and this is not a criticism -- is that I'd have liked to hear the Mission amp in cathode bias mode in the comparison since the Masco is cathode biased. But no big deal.

It is no surprise the two amps sound a lot alike. The 32-20 amp was based partly on my Masco ME-18, including the tone stack and paraphase inverter.

Rick, thanks. It didn't occur to me to switch the mission into cathode mode. The point being anyway that the mission surpasses the masco both in usability and versatility.

Rick, this is for you. Here is a comparison between the Mission and Masco with the Mission in the Cathode Bias Mode as suggested. I hope you can tell a difference between the two. I think the difference is quite minor.

Jim, I believe it is part of the magic in the tone.

It requires a coupling cap and another grid-leak resistor for the fixed bias mode. I've read articles where the tone of the paraphase inverter is described by guitar players as "grubby." It sure makes a nice sound in Masco and Mission amps.

blueswannabe, thanks so much for doing that 2nd video. Very cool, and very nice playing.

One thing I like about your videos is they show how easy it is to drive the Mission's speakers with another amp, or to use the Mission amp to drive an external cab. All Mission amps come with a plug-in speaker cable and a 1/4 inch jack on the chassis. If you carry a speaker cable with 1/4 inch phone plugs and a separate double-female adapter you are ready for pretty much anything.

Rick, how long is the speaker lead? Long enough to sit most amp heads on top of the cabinet?

Smoke, no, the speaker lead is not that long. But as I said in comment right above yours, if you carry a short length of 1/4-inch speaker cable and a double female 1/4-inch connector you can quickly hook it up to an amp head.

Oisin, yeah, Nic is pretty good. He is 17 years old, has been playing for 5 years. Right how he is all about adding drama and tension to his melodic choices.

Thanks Rick. Got another question for you. If one Lil Buddy is good are two better? Got to be really loud if nothing else! My understanding is that many users of cabinets with multiple speakers prefer different speakers looking for a blend. How about a 2 x 10 with one Lil Buddy for projection and one Warehouse Veteran for raunch? Also, other than ensuring impedance is the correct match is there any other key factor such as efficiency that should be considered?

Smoke, Wow, good questions, and a bit tricky.

Several buyers of the Mission 32-20 2x10 amp have ordered it with two Lil Buddy speakers, and they freaking love it. Huge tone, punchy and strong low end. But be aware that Bruce Collins tweaks the circuit slightly when pairing two of these speakers in the same cab. A Forum member has this amp and I do believe he is a very happy camper.

I have spoken to amp builders other than Bruce Collins who swear by mismatched speakers in harp amps. They pair up ceramics with alnicos, different brands and efficiencies, different cone types and magnet weights, even different wattage ratings.

As I've written before, my favorite speakers in the 2x10 amp are the Lil Buddy and the Eminence Legend alnico 1028.

I have never heard the Lil Buddy and the Veteran speaker together in a 2x10 amp. They are two speakers I like a lot, and I've heard them separately in a few amps and together in my Bassman. I'm pretty sure they would sound very cool together in a 2x10 harp amp. I'd like to hear it!
